Where does Oberstar get all his money?

Well, the fact is Oberstar didn’t collect much in the form of campaign contributions from within his own district this past quarter. According to Politico, only ONE donor in CD-8 has contributed to his campaign between June 22 and September 30.

Jane Robbins of Pine City gave Oberstar $500 on Aug. 22.

Last weekend I was driving down highway 95 from North Branch to St. Cloud to head up to my family’s cabin. Along the highway I saw maybe two or two Oberstar signs for every 10 Cravaack signs. That’s pretty telling. It doesn’t appear that Oberstar is spending much time in his district. At least not in the southern portion. But why would he? As the story points out:

Oberstar raised more money from individuals in each of the following parts of the country: other Minnesota districts, Alabama, Arizona, California, Washington, D.C., Florida, Maryland, Michigan, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Oregon and Virginia. He also collected $500 apiece from donors in South Carolina, Georgia, Illinois and Indiana.

Oberstar’s other in-district donations were $1,000 from Allete PAC in Duluth and $300 from the Minnesota Chippewa Tribe in Cass Lake.

Who needs Minnesota money when you can get it from some place else, ya know, like special interest groups?
